XAMPP Php and Mysql versions

This page is for keeping track of older Xampp releases, with notes on the versions of Php, Mysql, Apache and Phpmyadmin.

The truth is, for a local webserver behind a NAT firewall, there is no need to upgrade Xampp server to the latest release. If it works smoothly, why would we replace it?

 Note:

  • Xampp 1.5.5 - With control panel. Have options to install Apache and Mysql as services. Php Switch.
  • Xampp 1.4.16 - With control panel. Will ask (popup) to install Apache and Mysql as services. Php switcher from ver 4 to 5 and vice versa.
  • Xampp 1.3 - Same as 1.0 but with new welcome page in English (orange)
  • Xampp 1.2 - Same as 1.0
  • Xampp 1.1 - Same as 1.0
  • Xampp 1.0 - Welcome page in German (purple). No installer. Need to click setup_xampp.bat to configure. Then need to click apache_start.bat and mysql_start.bat

 What's New:

  • Xampp 1.6 - Support for Windows Vista. To avoid problems, install direct under c:/ not c:/Program files.
  • Xampp 1.5 - Very stable in Windows XP. New Mysql 5.0
  • Xampp 1.4 - New Mysql 4.1 & New Php 5
  • Xampp 1.3 - Newer versions of of Mysql and Phpmyadmin. This is the last release with Mysql 4.0
  • Xampp 1.2 - Just newer versions of Apache and Php
  • Xampp 1.1 - Just newer versions of Mysql & Phpmyadmin
  • Xampp 1.0 - First version.
